What is the link between communication and corporate fundraising?

Communication is essential to a fundraiser. As a fundraiser you need to ‘sell’ your cause, or in other words, present it in such a way to your potential partners/sponsors/members that they are willing to support you in monetary and/or non-monetary form. To do this, you need a strong story and a convincing presentation, which all comes down to communication. Your communication strategy can determine the effectiveness of your fundraising. What your communication strategy should be depends of course on your cause and on whom you want to approach to raise funds.  It also depends on the method of fundraising you choose and the tools that go along with that method. If you, for example, use personal visits, you will need a different communication tactic than if you want to approach people via mail of telemarketing. Reaching a specific party – for example the board of a certain organization – requires yet another approach (a more personal communication approach) than reaching the general public. In other words: your strategy depends entirely on your plan, your cause and the parties involved but one thing that goes for all communication strategies for fundraisers is that you need to communicate in a strong, convincing and transparent way to raise funds in the utmost effective and efficient way.
